Environmental Racism: From Community Stories to Union Action

September 17, 2024, 7:00PM-9:00PM EST

Virtual panel (Zoom). Language: English with French translation

PSAC NCR is excited to announce the upcoming webinar, “Environmental Racism: From Community Stories to Union Action,” organized by participants of the Union Leadership Development Program (ULDP).  This virtual panel will bring together a diverse range of speakers active in communities impacted by environmental racism to generate conversation about the ways in which the labour movement can support resistance efforts.

Join us in saying NO to placing polluting and toxic industries in Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities. You will have the opportunity to learn about the generational impacts of the Petrochemical industry in Aamjiwnaag First Nation, how migrant farm workers are affected by environmental racism with differential treatment in Ontario, the legacy of environmental racism and its health impacts in Indigenous and Black communities in Canada, and MORE!

Host:

Larry Rousseau, Executive Vice President, Canadian Labour Congress (CLC)

Panelists:

  • Vanessa Gray, Anishinaabe, Land Defender from Aamjiwnaang First Natio
  • Dr. Ingrid Waldron, Professor and HOPE Chair in Peace and Health in the Global Peace and Social Justice Program at McMaster University
  • Taneeta Doma, Justicia for Migrant Workers (J4MW), lawyer with the Migrant Farmworker Legal Clinic

A question-and-answer period will follow the speaker presentations.

This event will be a powerful call-to-action in support of human rights and environmental justice. Please share this invitation with your union networks, communities, friends, and family.

There is no environmental justice without racial justice.

We must all rise together to fight environmental racism and seek a better future for everyone. We look forward to your participation.
